How it works in one minute
Official
The manufacturer is changing its access (October 2026). This guide describes the method that works today and will be updated. Tell me about any change.
(car's 4G)MyŠkoda Public API
(official API)Home
Assistant
| What it is | Škoda's public API, read by Home Assistant's official integration (from version 2026.11) |
| Cost | Free |
| Data | Battery level, range, charging, power, time left, cable, charge limit, doors, windows, mileage, parking position |
| Commands | Start and stop charging, charge limit (50–100 %), climate, depending on the model |
| Where it works | Anywhere, through the car's connection |
| Depends on | Škoda's cloud and an API key you renew |
What you need
- Home Assistant installed and reachable from your computer.
- The MyŠkoda app up to date, with the car added and Škoda Connect services active.
- Home Assistant 2026.11 or newer for the official integration (release planned for early November 2026).
1Install the integration
- Create an API key in MyŠkodaOn your phone, open go.skoda.eu/api-keys: it opens the keys page in the app. Create a key, tick the car(s) it should cover, and note its expiry date.
- Update Home AssistantThe official Škoda integration arrives with version 2026.11. Check your version under Settings → About.
- Add the Škoda integrationSettings → Devices & services → Add integration, search for Škoda and follow the wizard: it asks for the key from step 1 and, if needed, the car's VIN.
- Find the carThe car appears as a device under Settings → Devices & services. Entities are only created for the data your model reports.
This community integration stops working in October 2026, when Škoda closes the old access. Remove it once the official integration is installed, and update your cards and automations with the new entity names.
The VW Group Connect community integration (HACS) already handles Škoda both ways: In HACS, search for “VW Group Connect”, click Download, then restart Home Assistant. Then pick the Škoda brand and the email-and-password login.
2The data you get
| Data | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Battery level | In %, the value to give Watt Budget |
| Range | Estimated kilometres |
| Charging, AC or DC | With power and time left until full |
| Cable plugged in and locked | For an automation when you get home |
| Charge limit | Adjustable in 10 % steps, from 50 to 100 % |
| Doors, windows, boot, bonnet | For an evening alert |
| Mileage | For your monthly stats |
| Key expiry and remaining quota | So you're never caught out |
Replace the long names with short ones, for example sensor.skoda_battery (Settings → Devices & services → Entities → the entity → cog). Your cards, automations and Watt Budget settings will be much easier to read.
3Connect Watt Budget
The sensor to enter in Watt Budget, under Settings › Home Assistant: the battery level sensor (in %) of the Škoda device.
Once connected, Watt Budget reads the level every minute: no more typing the starting percentage, and the charge is worked out from the real battery level.
The four steps (HTTPS access, token, sensors, check) are explained on the guides home page and in the Watt Budget guide.
4Precautions
- The API allows 20 requests per hour per car, commands included. If another tool (evcc, another integration) uses the same key, they share that quota.
- The API key expires: note the date and create a new one in MyŠkoda before then.
- The car only sends its data at certain moments (end of a drive, charging): polling more often won't make values fresher.
- Don't shorten the update interval: each query can wake the car and drain its 12 V battery. The defaults are a good balance.
- Your credentials stay in your Home Assistant; neither Watt Budget nor I can see them.
Frequently asked questions
My old integration shows “unavailable”. Is that normal?
Yes, if it's MySkoda (HACS): Škoda closed the access it relied on. Switch to the official integration or to VW Group Connect.
Are plug-in hybrids covered?
Yes, the API also covers the Superb and Octavia iV, with battery level and, for the engine side, fuel level.
Does Watt Budget get access to my car?
No. Watt Budget only reads the battery level sensor in your Home Assistant, from your browser, with the token you give it. It never sees your manufacturer login or the car's location.
My model isn't listed. Can it work?
Often yes: these integrations go through the manufacturer's app, shared across the range. The easiest is to try, then tell me how it went via the contact page.
