How it works in one minute
HACS
It works for some owners but takes patience, and the manufacturer can break it at any time. Your feedback will move this guide forward.
(car's 4G)Ford (FordPass)
(HACS integration)Home
Assistant
| What it is | A community integration that mimics the Ford app to query Ford's servers |
| Cost | Free |
| Data | Battery level, range, charging, power, mileage, tyres, doors, location |
| Commands | Locks, remote start, start and stop charging depending on the model |
| Where it works | Anywhere, through the car's modem |
| Depends on | Ford's servers and an access token to fetch |
What you need
- Home Assistant installed and reachable from your computer.
- HACS, the community store for Home Assistant extensions (installation explained on hacs.xyz).
- A car with the connected modem, registered in the Ford app (formerly FordPass).
- A second Ford account the car is shared with: Ford may temporarily lock an account used by an unofficial integration.
- A computer with a recent browser for the token step.
1Install the integration
- Remove any old FordPass integrationIf you had the original integration (itchannel), remove it: the two aren't compatible.
- Install marq24's integrationIn HACS, open the ⋮ menu → Custom repositories, add
https://github.com/marq24/ha-fordpasswith the Integration category, download it, then restart Home Assistant. In the list, make sure to pick marq24's (version 2026.8.2 or newer). - Add it and fetch the tokenSettings → Devices & services → Add integration, search for Fordpass. The wizard walks you through signing in on Ford's page in your browser, then copying an access code from the browser's developer tools. The project's documentation details every screen, and a helper tool has simplified this step since May 2026.
- Find the carThe car appears as a device under Settings → Devices & services. The token is stored outside the integration folder, so updates don't make you redo it.
The same author offers an integration using Ford's official API. Getting the token is simpler there, but you must register an app on Ford's developer portal. The comparison is on the project page.
2The data you get
| Data | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Battery level | In %, the value to give Watt Budget |
| Electric range | Estimated kilometres |
| Charging and power | While charging |
| Mileage | For your stats |
| Tyre pressure | All four wheels |
| Doors, windows, locks | For an evening alert |
Replace the long names with short ones, for example sensor.mache_battery (Settings → Devices & services → Entities → the entity → cog). Your cards, automations and Watt Budget settings will be much easier to read.
3Connect Watt Budget
The sensor to enter in Watt Budget, under Settings › Home Assistant: the battery level sensor (in %) of the Ford device.
Once connected, Watt Budget reads the level every minute: no more typing the starting percentage, and the charge is worked out from the real battery level.
The four steps (HTTPS access, token, sensors, check) are explained on the guides home page and in the Watt Budget guide.
4Precautions
- Ford regularly changes its login procedure: if setup fails, check the project page first, it flags ongoing blocks.
- Using an unofficial integration can lead to a temporary account lock: that's why a separate account is advised.
- Unofficial integration: the manufacturer can change its app and break it overnight. Keep the official app on your phone.
- Don't shorten the update interval: each query can wake the car and drain its 12 V battery. The defaults are a good balance.
- Your credentials stay in your Home Assistant; neither Watt Budget nor I can see them.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Puma Gen-E supported?
It uses the same Ford app, so it should be, but I have no feedback yet. Tell me if you try it.
Do I have to redo the token often?
No, it's meant to be a one-off; the integration then renews access on its own.
Does Watt Budget get access to my car?
No. Watt Budget only reads the battery level sensor in your Home Assistant, from your browser, with the token you give it. It never sees your manufacturer login or the car's location.
My model isn't listed. Can it work?
Often yes: these integrations go through the manufacturer's app, shared across the range. The easiest is to try, then tell me how it went via the contact page.
Links and thanks
Thanks to marq24, who rewrote and maintains the integration, and to itchannel and SquidBytes for the original version.
